The Garjiya Devi Temple of Ramnagar is a very famous temple and a holy place for locals around the Kumaon region. During Kartik Poornima (in NOV-DEC) thousands of devotees from different places come to this Temple.
As per the ancient stories, Girijya Devi is a daughter of the Himalayan mountains and wife of Lord Shiva, and it is also another name for Maa Parvati.
The Garjiya mandir is located on a hilltop in the middle of the Kosi River. It is connected by a pedestrian footbridge. It is 14 km away from Ramnagar town and is located near the Jim Corbett National Park.
I went to Garjiya Devi temple Ramnagar with my friends and family for a short one-day trip from Nainital. It takes 2 hours to reach here.
Though not everyone on our team was ready to spend a day here, once we visited, the environment and the place were so charming, and it filled us with peace.
And finally, we decided to spend our day exploring the beautiful Garjiya mandir/temple, nearby places, and the gorgeous Kosi River. Garjiya Devi Temple Ramnagar is located on the bank of the Kosi River. It is been believed that the rock on which the Garjiya mandir is located came down during a flood in river Kosi. Here are some beautiful pictures of the River Kosi
A temple view
The Temple always stays crowded.
A few inside pictures
A view from the top of the hill and Temple can give you the experience of the panoramic view of the Kosi River and the flora-fauna around it.
Small Shiva Temple at the base of the hill. A temple of Laxmi-Narayan inside the Garjiya mandir Ramnagar premises. It is believed here that the prayers are not complete until the devotee worships Bhairava after worshipping Girija Devi.
